家永三郎編 植木枝盛選集 Ueki Emori Anthology edited by Saburou Ienami

明治時代、自由民権運動の時代に活躍した、植木枝盛の主要な論文集。

その論文に共通するのは、徹底した人権思想。その主張は、すべての人間は、生まれつき、平等に権利を与えられている、という基本思想に裏付けられている。

男女の社会的な地位の平等を訴えたり、当時の国民の大多数を占めた農民の権利を求める、その主張を読むと、その先進的な内容に、大きな感動を覚える。

特に、明治憲法が発布される以前に出版された、東洋大日本国憲法案は、実際の明治憲法より進歩的な内容で、むしろ、今日の日本国憲法に近い。

今の憲法は、アメリカの押しつけ、との主張は、この書を読むと、完全にはそうは言い切れないことがわかる。その基本的な精神の底流は、明治以前から、日本に確実に流れ続けていたのだ。

Ueki was a thinker and politician at Meiji period. This anthology includes his main papers.

His thought was based on western human rights thought at that time. He argued women are equal as men, poor farmer which are main parts of Japanese population should be citizens of Japanese society.

He proposed his idea of constitution before government published his one. The contents was more radical than goverment's one, very similar to today's constitution.

Some people is saying USA forced his constitution to Japan after world war II. But Ueki's proposal proves the saying is not correct.
