日本には、中国からもたらされた漢字、カタカナ、ひらがな、が存在する。それが、どのように誕生したか、日本の文化に、どのように影響を与えたかが、豊富な事例とともに、紹介される。

また、個々の文字が音を持っているアルファベットと、音を持たない漢字の違いを説明し、なぜ、日本や韓国、ベトナムでは、漢字と現地の文字が共存できているかを、解説している。

最後に、文字教育を怠っている日本の現状を批判し、特に漢字が書けなくなると、論理的な思考が出来なくなるとしている。

とにかく面白くて、文字通り、目から鱗が落ちる一冊。

A interesting and existing book.

Ishikawa explains why Japanse is using 3 kinds of characters - Kanji, Katakana and Hiragana and how the mix affected Japanese culture.

He also tells us the difference between Alpabet and Kanji. The part is very unique.

Finally he criticizes the current situation of the literal education in Japan - very less of educating to write characters by hand. As him, the situation will make Japanese think non-logical.
