郡司正勝 かぶき入門 Introduction to Kabuki by Masakatsu Gunji

演劇学者である郡司が、かぶきについて、その歴史、劇場、役者、観客などについて、幅広く、しかも簡潔に紹介した入門書。

郡司によれば、かぶきとは、江戸時代に民衆に支えられた芸術ではあるが、決して単純なものではなく、それを鑑賞するには、高い知性と、批判精神が必要になる、という。

そのことは、かぶきの歴史を紹介した章の後で、役者ではなく、観客について、章を割いていることに、その意図がよく表れている。

そして、現代において、かぶきが復活するには、江戸時代の同様、観客の厳しい目こそが、何よりも重要であると、最後に語っている。

Gunji, a scholar of Japanese drama introduces about Kabuki briefly from many kinds of aspects like the history, the theater, actors and audiences.

As the author, Kabuki is not just a simple drama for peoples to understand easily but the audiences need  their deep intelligence and critics.

Gunji writes one chapter only about audiences in this book to explain for this.

He points out that only the audiences who have intelligence and critics like in Edo period can make Kabuki great again like in that age.
