ワーグナーのすべて、とは野心的な題名だが、新書においてワーグナーの全てを書き切ることは無論、不可能だ。

ワーグナーの主要なオペラのストーリーと、それぞれのオペラが、初演当時から今日の公演まで、どのように演じられてきたか、という側面のみにフォーカスした内容になっている。

その反面で、音楽的な中身には、あまり触れられてはいない。

バルジファルは、かつては、拍手をしてはいけなかった、などの興味深いエピソードが盛り込まれている。歴代の主要なオペラ歌手の紹介もあり、ワーグナーの作品を楽しむには、参考になる情報が多い。

The title is "All about Wagner" but the contents are focus on the story of major Wagner's opera and how his works has been performed from his age to today.

On the other hand he does not write about his music so much.
