コンドルセ 人間精神進歩史（岩波文庫） History of Human Spirits Progress by Marquis de Condorcet

著者のコンドルセは、フランス革命の中で、反対派として逮捕され、獄中で自殺した。その年に出版されたのが、この書。

その内容は、一貫して、人間の理性に対する、盲目的とも言える信頼で、貫かれている。しかし、その理性が実現されるはずだったフランス革命の中で、自ら命を絶つことになったということが、この本を、より悲劇的な物にしている。

その後のヨーロッパを中心とした人類の歴史は、まるで、”人間精神衰退史”のようだ。

進歩という考え方や、自分たちの民族に対する偏愛に対して、何の疑問も反省も感じていないその内容は、今日からみると、あまりに無邪気すぎるが、それが、当時の時代精神を、何よりも良く表している。

Condorcet was a politician at France revolution age and was suicided after arrested by the government. This book has published on the same year of his death.

Condorcet believed human's reason from his true heart. But his life makes this book tragic in contrast.

Human's history mainly in Europe after his death was just like History of Human Sprits Decline.

This book shows us Condorcet's belief to the concept of progress and Europe's superiority. I think his thought is innocent enough. But this book tells us how the age he was living was very well.
